INCREDIBLE EDIBLES
REGISTER your school for Incredible Edibles 2017 from 21 November 2016.
Agri Aware's Incredible Edibles project is a healthy eating initiative for primary school students across Ireland, funded by Bord Bia and the Irish Horticulture Industry. It encourages schools across the country to grow their own fruit and vegetables and to learn about their nutritive value and food origin. Schools who register for the programme will receive seeds, plants, and materials necessary to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables.

At Family Farm, our 'Incredible Edibles' growing patch mimics that of a school garden with planting taking place in line with the school calender (March to June), for schools to follow.
Throughout the year, the following fruits and vegetables can be found in the Family Farm garden:
Fruit
Apples, Rhubarb, Strawberries, Raspberries, Gooseberries, Plums & Grapes
Vegetables
Potatoes, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Carrots, Beetroot, Turnips, Onions, Peas & Leeks

Healthy Eating Week
Healthy Eating week takes place each year and relates to Task 5 in the logbook. As part of this week students should record their daily intake of potatoes, fruits and vegetables to complete this task.

5-a-day helps keep obesity away!
Bloom in the Park
Each year, there is an opportunity for schools participating in Incredible Edibles program to attend Bloom in the Park.
This year, over 730 students from 28 schools over 11 counties availed of a trip to Bloom which included specialised talks in the Incredible Edibles horticulture tunnel, tour of the 'Origin Green Farmyard' with Agri Aware's 'Meet the Farmers' and a visit to the organic school garden.
National Strawberry Week
National Strawberry Week 2016 took place from 6-12 June this year. In conjunction with Bord Bia, Agri Aware through the Incredible Edibles programme, held a colouring competition with one lucky school winning a VIP trip to Family Farm plus a goody bag full of strawberry goodness with thanks to Keelings! The overall winner was Scoil Bhlaithin Íosa, Ballynagearn N.S., Co. Monaghan who visited the Family Farm on Tuesday 24 May, with regional winners receiving punnets of strawberries for their class.
Competition Winners
Each year, schools participating in Agri Aware's Incredible Edibles Healthy Eating project will have the opportunity to win a number of prizes, including a polytunnel, a VIP trip for a class to Family Farm, Dublin Zoo, vouchers and a class recipe to be included on the Incredible Edibles website.
A total of 1,219 schools registered for Incredible Edibles 2016, with Montessori, Gaelscoils and Special Schools entering for the first time.
A total of 65 logbooks were submitted for this years project and Agri Aware's Incredible Edibles Team had the hard task of shortlisting to 10 and finally deliberating to select the overall winners.
